Clarion

Named for the Clarion River, the town of Clarion became the county seat and, by 1841, established a borough with a population of 741. Today, the current population is over 6,000.

It boasts a bustling business district, is home to Clarion University, offers numerous employment opportunities, and features a safe and friendly community with a variety of activities throughout the year. Known for its Autumn Leaf Festival, Clarion is a popular place for alums, friends, and family.

Located 1 mile north of Interstate 80, Clarion is 80 miles north of Pittsburgh, 70 miles east of Youngstown, Ohio, and 300 miles west of New York, New York. Interstate 80, using exits 62 and 64, provides access to Clarion and the nationally recognized Cook Forest State Park, located 20 minutes from downtown.

Sutton-Ditz House Museum and Library
The Sutton-Ditz House was erected in 1850 by Thomas Sutton, a young attorney who settled in Clarion County when it was established on 11 March 1839. He was accepted into the Bar Association in 1841 and quickly became a respected and admired attorney in the Clarion area.

Organizations

The Clarion County Historical Society
The Clarion County Historical Society was established in 1955 and chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1956 as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, educational institution.
