Humane Society Greene County: pets are welcome here

Most Greene County residents and neighbors know this organization for the pets offered for adoption and perhaps for the requests for money (any government agency does not regularly fund them at any level). They hope that more of you get to know them for their second function, education and that you can hear them at an animal show or school or that you may attend their dog obedience classes when they can again present them.

The organization is proud of its ten years of service as a shelter for animals in Greene County. They have many cats and dogs at their shelter facility, and people are welcome to come to see whether they have the right pet for them. Each day, they try to walk every dog in their care. They also groom as many animals as they can each day. Every dog and cat they offer for adoption has proved its friendliness with people because it interacts with their staff and visitors. Of course, they feed and water each animal and will bathe any animal before giving it to a new owner. They give all their pets toys to play with; all cats have a soft blanket and often a soft toy. They try to provide the pets with toys to choose from. When a dog or cat arrives at our shelter, it is vaccinated against distemper. Cats are tested for feline leukemia before adoption.

They offer canine parvovirus (parvo) tests upon request, and they will not allow a dog out of their shelter if they have an outbreak of this virus. If a dog stays at their shelter for more than ten days, they give it a rabies shot. They check every animal for fleas, ticks, and ear mites; it is treated if there is a problem. They also check for lumps, bumps, hair loss, and other signs of disease, and if necessary, they will treat the animal or have a vet treat it. The public is welcome to tour their facility and to look at and pet their animals. They are proud of what they do and how they do it and especially proud of their animal shelter. Every morning, 365 days a year, they clean their facility with bleach.

They provide medical care and shelter for unwanted animals in their homes.
