The Fayette County Historical Society is a non-profit organziation established in 1971. The mission and purpose of the organization is to find, collect and preserve the materials which portray the history of the county and the society. The archive of the organization includes information about the county, as well as the cities and institutions.
While visiting the Historical Societ of Fayette, don't hesitate to step back and enjoy one of the best-known landmarks of this county, the Greek revival antebellum house. It was built in 1855 by the Holiday family, but then used to be the property of different families. It also shares an association with several well-known local historical figures such as Margaret Mitchell, Dr. Crawford Williamson Long and former Governor Dorsey.
