Franklin

Franklin is a scenic historic town on the banks of the Allegheny River and French Creek in Northwestern Pennsylvania. As the County Seat of Venango County, Franklin City has a rich history dating back to colonial times, when it was the strategic setting of four frontier forts. In the heart of Venango County, Franklin sits against a panoramic backdrop of rolling hills and miles of richly forested valleys, making the region a recreational and visual delight. But it's more than the history that you'll love about the town.

It's more than the well-preserved Downtown, the charming Victorian neighborhoods, the standout festivals, the extensive bike trail network, the friendly town folk, and the excellent dining, lodging, and shopping opportunities in Franklin.

Franklinites are proud of their rich heritage. Established in 1795, Franklin is one of the leading communities in Western Pennsylvania to take meaningful steps in historic preservation. The United States Department of the Interior has designated thirty-five landmark blocks of the downtown historic district.

Called the "Victorian City," Franklin's layout of spacious boulevards and elegant architecture remains a source of pride to its current residents. Conceived by Andrew Ellicot, the layout was inspired by L'Enfant's plan for Washington D.C. From the 1870's to the early 1920's, many unique and varied architectural masterpieces were constructed in Franklin. Magnificent examples of these architectural marvels can still be found throughout the area. Unequivocally speaking, Franklin offers one of Pennsylvania's most attractive and affordable housing markets.

It's the community spirit that has always made Franklin so special. The people of Franklin feel strongly about their city. They welcome newcomers and new ideas, introducing new friends to the traditions they know and enjoy. Franklin's attractions include several major park facilities, free City-sponsored concerts, the Barrow Civic Center, the DeBence Museum, the Franklin Public Library, the Venango Regional Airport, and a newly remodeled YMCA.
