Franklin

Franklin is a scenic historic town on the banks of the Allegheny River and French Creek in Northwestern Pennsylvania. As the County Seat of Venango County, Franklin City has a rich history dating back to colonial times, when it was the strategic setting of four frontier forts. In the heart of Venango County, Franklin sits against a panoramic backdrop of rolling hills and miles of richly forested valleys, making the region a recreational and visual delight.

Franklinites take pride in their rich heritage. Established in 1795, Franklin is one of the leading communities in Western Pennsylvania to take meaningful steps in historic preservation. The United States Department of the Interior has designated thirty-five landmark blocks of the downtown historic district.

Called the "Victorian City," Franklin's layout of spacious boulevards and elegant architecture remains a source of pride to its current residents. Conceived by Andrew Ellicot, the design was inspired by L'Enfant's plan for Washington, D.C. From the 1870s to the early 1920s, many unique and varied architectural masterpieces were constructed in Franklin. Magnificent examples of these architectural marvels can still be found throughout the area. Franklin unequivocally offers one of Pennsylvania's most attractive and affordable housing markets.

The collection of is showcased along with a wide range of antiques that have either musical or local significance. Lighting is provided by the DeBences' collection of over 40 Tiffany-style hanging lamps. Many of the instruments in the collection are very rare. The Berry-Wood A.O.W.
1910 was a prosperous year for Franklin and included the building of the National Guard Armory overlooking French Creek.
