Pennsylvania has a strong connection to the United States's formative years and history. Northwest Pennsylvania, the farthest point colonized before western expansion began, was home to many historically important individuals, industries, and events.

George Washington visited and stayed in the region on several occasions. The world's first zipper was created here.

Museums

Located in Meadville, the Baldwin-Reynolds House was once home to Supreme Court Justice Henry Baldwin (1780-1840) and, at other times, two of Meadville's mayors. Purchased by the Meadville Historical Society, the house now includes an ice house, tannery, garden, and spring-fed pond.
Have you ever wondered where the first colonial settlement in northwest Pennsylvania was located? Well, look no further than Meadville.
Probably one of the most extensive historical sites in northwest Pennsylvania, the Drake Well Museum in Titusville is located on the site of the birthplace of the modern oil industry. In 1859, Edwin Drake struck oil here, which has become one of our most valued resources.
The Cambridge Springs Historical Museum documents the years of the mineral water boom. Its displays of artifacts, relics, momentos, and changing exhibits fill the first and second floors of the 1908 City Hall building.
South of Linesville on Hartstown Road is the Linesville Fish Hatchery, a fun place for people of all ages to learn about fish cultivation and get close up and personal with the fish in the observation tank.
The collection of is showcased along with a wide range of antiques that have either musical or local significance. Lighting is provided by the DeBences' collection of over 40 Tiffany-style hanging lamps. Many of the instruments in the collection are very rare. The Berry-Wood A.O.W.
The Arms Family Museum of Local History
In the first years of the twentieth century, a house of warmth and comfort lit up with lamplight, firelight, and friendship was built by the family of Olive and Wilford Arm.
The Blue Heron Art Gallery and Cultural Center was formed in June 2007 under the auspices of the Volant Community Development Corporation.
The Wilder Museum has many historical artifacts that will fascinate any visitor.
Erie History Center building was renovated in the spring of 1992 to serve as the headquarters of the Erie County Historical Society and the Erie Society for Genealogical Research.
Erie Maritime Museum, Homeport U.S. Brig Niagara, 150 East Front Street. As the homeport of Pennsylvania's official flagship, the museum offers the story of the Niagara from the reconstruction of the warship that won the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812.
The Firefighters Historical Museum, Inc. is located at the corner of West 5th and Chestnut Streets in downtown Erie. The museum was founded in 1969, Incorporated in 1971 and opened to the public on May 3, l976.
Simpler Times Museum is a group of five buildings full of priceless history. It is a hidden treasure at 111 Simpler Times Lane, Tidioute (four miles north of Tidioute on Route 62).

Organizations

The purpose of establishing Crawford County Historical Society is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Crawford County.
Warren County Historical Society is located in the Struthers-Wetmore-Schimmelfeng House, built in 1873 in the Italian Renaissance style. It is a solid structure today, but the veranda and balcony are gone. It proudly serves as the information center for the Warren Historic District.
