The Penn State Shenango campus library is located in a building that was constructed in the early 1900s. For many years it was a commercial laundry, then a union hall for local steel workers. In 1990 the University purchased the building. After six years and a two million dollar renovation, Graham Spanier, president, dedicated the new library September 26, 1996.
Through the generosity of Vera Lartz, a member of a prominent Sharon family, the library was officially named the Lartz Memorial Library in September 1999. The 12,000 foot, single story building houses a classroom, 2 study rooms, computer lab, approximately 35,000 volumes, 200 videos, and 163 serials titles including microfilm, indexes, almanacs, newspapers, and La Vie yearbooks.
