Allegheny Kiski Valley Historical Society

The Allegheny-Kiski Valley Historical Society is a non-profit, permanent institution whose primary mission is interpreting, preserving, and celebrating our cultural, industrial, and ethnic heritage of the Allegheny and Kiskiminetas river valleys in southwestern Pennsylvania, a region embracing the surrounding areas from Harmar Township north to Freeport, and east to Apollo.

 The Society is committed to accomplishing this mission through the following objectives: 

1. Acquiring, preserving, and professionally exhibiting historically relevant material that illustrates the history of the region; 

2. Developing and facilitating cooperative partnerships among organizations with a similar mission; 

3. Providing educational and outreach opportunities for the public; and 

4. Serving as a catalyst for the private and public preservation, rehabilitation and/or adaptive re-use of historic sites.

Museums or Landmarks

The Tarentum Station was built in 1892 and moved to its present location in 1913. It has welcomed many important visitors, including Kit Carson, William Jennings Brian, Carrie A. Nation, and President Willaim Howard Taft.
The A-K Valley Heritage Museum is located on the corner of Lock Street and East Seventh Avenue in Tarentum.
