Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation

The Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation (BARC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Community Development Corporation (CDC) established in 1989 through the efforts of the Mon Valley Initiative (MVI). BARC's mission is to achieve economic development through revitalization efforts in the community and to recognize the contributions of former and current residents toward the goal of preserving the area's rich heritage for future generations.

The Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation's accomplishments include the preservation of historic buildings to provide rental space, encouraging new businesses to the community, and promoting the expansion of current companies. The many events planned by BARC bring people together for cultural awareness and educational events that tell stories about individuals and how they contributed to making America, our unique nation.

The historic Flatiron Building, constructed around 1830 along the National Road, was initially built for commercial use. Its distinctive wedge-shaped design—resembling a traditional clothing iron—has made it a prominent landmark in the Brownsville.
