The Fayette County Historical Society is a non-profit organization established in 1971. Its mission and purpose are to find, collect, and preserve materials that portray the history of the county and the society. The organization's archive includes information about the county, cities, and institutions.
While visiting the Historical Society of Fayette, don't hesitate to step back and enjoy one of the best-known landmarks of this county: the Greek Revival antebellum house. It was built in 1855 by the Holiday family but then used to be the property of different families. It also shares an association with several well-known local historical figures, such as Margaret Mitchell, Dr. Crawford Williamson Long, and former Governor Dorsey.
