Perryopolis Area History Museum is located in the historical building of the former Youghiogheny Bank of Pennsylvania, also known as Old State Bank, on Liberty Street, one-half block south of Washington Diamond in central Perryopolis. The building is a one-story, front-gabled building approximately 25 square feet, circa 1817, with walls of coursed ashlar sandstone. The gable peak and foundations are laid up in sandstone rubble.
Attached to the rear of the bank building is a two-story, approximately 25-square-foot stone circa 1935 addition built to match the original building's scale, materials, and roof shape. It was also in circa l935 that the window openings were altered. The addition rises above the roof of the original building, but is barely visible from the street. Located on a narrow lot, the bank building is flanked by taller frame buildings on either side. A walkway runs to the lot's rear along the building's northern side. The Youghiogheny Bank Building lacks evident stylistic influences but retains integrity and reflects use as an early nineteenth-century commercial building.
The interior of the original portion of the building contains four rooms. Their plan and materials date circa 1935, when the building was altered for a doctor's office and residence. Interior walls and ceilings are finished in decoratively scored drywall. The former doctor's office comprises the three front rooms of the structure.
The original building's rear room is a kitchen containing circa l935 built-in wood cabinets. The kitchen serves as a connection between the original portion of the building and the addition. The newer rear portion of the structure contains a large living/dining room with a rock-faced fireplace on the first floor and two bedrooms, a bath, and a large hall closet on the second floor. Doors and windows throughout the interior are of naturally finished wood.
Perryopolis Area History Museum has six rooms of local antiques and memorabilia. Exhibitions contain cocal history artifacts and some family genealogies. The museum shop has Perryopolis souvenirs for sale.
