Parker P. Blood Block

The Jefferson County Area Agency on Aging has provided services to senior citizens since 1979. Looking for new office space, the Agency investigated a 14,000 square foot vacant 1875 building known as the Parker P. Blood Block or the IOOF building (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) in the heart of Brookville’s National Register historic district.

The Parker P. Blood Block was fully rehabilitated with professional assistance from local architect William L. Snyder and Brookville preservation consultants Taylor & Taylor. The 1.3 million-dollar project was funded with public money and local contributions.

This project demonstrates how public and private organizations can effectively collaborate to improve their communities through historic preservation. It stands as a model for historic landmark preservation's positive role in small and large communities across the state.
