The Kane Depot was built in 1873. An extension was made to the original building in 1890. The first railroad to operate through the depot was the Philadelphia/Erie Railroad. Subsequent railroads operating through the depot included the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, the Allegheny Eastern Railroad Company, and the Buffalo Western Railroad. The Kane Depot Preservation Society purchased the Kane Depot from Buffalo Western Railroad in 1995.

Today, the Kane Depot is the oldest surviving commercial building in Kane, PA. It is also one of only two existing buildings that the town's founder, General Thomas L. Kane, is sure to have been in.

The front room of the Kane Historic Depot building houses the museum with some historic Kane memorabilia and railroad artifacts. There are more artifacts and old photographs throughout the building. Holgate Toys are located in the old baggage room. Kane Historic Preservation Society members continue to work on the freight room and attic space to extend our capacity for storage and display.

ArtWorks at the Depot

ArtWorks at the Depot is an artist-run cooperative with a gallery/store in the restored 1873 Railroad Depot in Kane, Pennsylvania. We are artists and art lovers, inspired by our northern Allegheny region's natural beauty and historic significance.

While artists are busy throughout the year, the gallery/store has a limited season and hours. The season runs from the last weekend of May through the end of December. During our season, you can visit the gallery/store on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 5 PM or by appointment.

The gallery's artwork is displayed in the old depot building, showcasing old treasures of local history and railroad memorabilia. The gallery shares both old treasures and new works of art with our visitors.
