Wilmington

Wilmington Township is home to a large population of Old Order Amish. They are a very productive part of the community maintaining their own schoolhouses. Their horses and buggies can be seen throughout the area. They are active in many construction projects as well as farming. There is also an active Amish community in Enon Valley.

New Wilmington is the home of Westminster College, founded in 1852 by the United Presbyterian Church. This is one of the oldest colleges west of the Alleghenies and is well known for it's academic excellence in the liberal arts. Also in New Wilmington is the Overlook Nursing Home. It was started in 1911 by Dr. Elizabeth McLaughry as a medical facility for mental and nervous disorders. It was one of the pioneer hospitals in this part of Pennsylvania in that field.
