Washington
In addition to the nation's capital and the state, 31 counties and 17 towns are named in honor of the country's first president. However, Washington County in Western Pennsylvania was the first county to claim the name in 1781.
Located in Southwestern Pennsylvania, Washington County has nearly 210,000 residents, occupies more than 860 square miles, and boasts a range of community resources.
Some people find their inner bliss with just a few slices of pizza, complete with their toppings, while others opt for the pomp and circumstance of a five-course gourmet meal. When some people want to call it a night, sleeping under the stars provides the ultimate experience. But for others, nothing says sweet dreams like a well-appointed hotel room.
Some might argue that shopping is not a necessity, but we suggest that it's all about the pursuit of happiness (and sometimes bargains). Shopping—whether at the outlets or the malls, the antique stores or the specialty shops—is a part of life. And life is good in Washington County.
There’s fun and outdoor fun, which might get your hands dirty or your shoes wet. But no matter what the activity – hiking, biking, hunting, fishing – chances are your spirits will be soaring by the time you’re ready to call it a day.
And speaking of spirits (did someone mention Oktoberfest?), Washington County is alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of festivals. Apples and pumpkins, covered bridges, and farm equipment are all cause for celebration.
The reviews are in, and Washington County’s cultural scene is definitely ready for prime time. The region offers a rich tapestry of creative, performing, and visual arts from galleries to choirs, theaters to the symphony. The arts – not to mention the sciences and humanities – are also flourishing on the county’s college campuses.
