Blair
Blair County is well known to those of us who call this region of Southwestern Pennsylvania home, and the critics agree. Of 343 Metropolitan areas in the nation and Canada rated by Prentice Hall Travel's 1993 Place Rated Almanac, Altoona is ranked the fifth safest city and the seventh least expensive spot for home buyers.
Blair County includes over 130,000 residents. The land comprising the present-day Blair County, 530 square miles nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, was once a primeval forest, rich in wildlife with streams full of trout, shad, salmon, and bass. Today, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking are enjoyable pastimes.
The lush forest and fertile fields are part of a rich and valued heritage, with 63 percent of Blair County's land still considered rural. Gently rolling hills that dip down into farm-filled valleys. Panoramic landscapes produce a colorful, dramatic show every season. And that's just for starters.
We invite you to experience the beauty of this part of Pennsylvania, its multitude of year-round outdoor activities, fascinating historical landmarks and museums, fun-filled, old-fashioned amusement parks, great regional shopping centers and specialty shops, a spectacular baseball park, and, of course, hospitality-filled restaurants and lodging properties. The history of rolling out the red carpet goes back a long way, and we look forward to serving you.
